Waller “Watt” Taylor III

Of Counsel

Kantor Taylor PC is sad to share the news of the unexpected passing of Waller “Watt” Taylor III, one of the firm’s founders and guiding lights. This is a huge loss for the many communities Watt was a part of both locally and abroad, and the affordable housing industry specifically. We will sorely miss Watt’s kindness, generosity, and unmistakable laugh.

Watt Taylor is a founding shareholder in the firm. Watt has more than 34 years of housing and real estate experience with an emphasis on federal programs providing financing and other governmental assistance to multi-family housing and health care facilities. He served as Regional Counsel for the Department of Housing and Urban Development in Seattle, WA from 1982 through 1990. Since that time, his practice has emphasized real estate development and management related to all housing programs and health care administered by HUD and USDA.

Watt assists owners, developers, lenders, real estate investment trusts, management companies, and housing authorities with financing, closing, sales, and other transactions involving FHA-insured multi-family projects, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, refinancings involving existing Section 202 projects, tax-exempt bond financed projects, and other conventionally financed developments. Watt and his colleagues were the first to combine FHA financing and Low Income Housing Tax Credits in the Northwest. In addition, he has assisted in the acquisition and rehabilitation of numerous projects assisted through Section 8 project-based assistance and project-based vouchers.

In addition, based on his experience at HUD when the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 was passed, Watt provides advice and guidance to owners, management companies, lenders and tax credit investors in relation to all aspects of federal fair housing, including issues related to persons with disabilities, senior housing, and special needs housing.

When not in the office, Watt loves the outdoors, including skiing and hiking, as well as travel, particularly focusing on trips to Africa and India.
