La Fonte Nesbitt


La Fonte has over 30 years of experience with all types of real estate finance and development. However, his practice emphasizes HUD programs, affordable housing, urban and community development, government related real estate projects and programs, and public-private partnerships and privatization initiatives, including tax-exempt housing bonds, low-income housing tax credits, and military housing privatization. He has served as counsel to for-profit and nonprofit developers and owners, investors, HUD-insured and other lenders, and underwriters in connection with the acquisition, development and financing of housing, retail developments, office buildings and mixed-use projects. He has also represented housing authorities, housing finance agencies, and other government agencies in connection with real estate matters.

Prior to joining Kantor Taylor, La Fonte spent five years as the first General Counsel and Senior Vice President at Love Funding, a leading HUD-insured lender. Prior to Love Funding, La Fonte was a real estate partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Holland & Knight, where he also served for about seven years as the Executive Partner of Holland’s Knight’s Washington D.C. area offices, and as their first firm-wide Diversity Partner.

He has spoken and written widely on affordable housing, HUD programs and other real estate matters. La Fonte has received various awards and honors including being recognized in the 2012 edition of the Legal 500 USA, Real Estate & Construction: Real Estate, being named a Washington D.C. Super Lawyer numerous times, being appointed by the Mayor of Washington, D.C. to the District of Columbia’s 2012 Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force, and being recognized as the Co-Founder of the Washington Business Journal’s Minority Business Leaders award program.
