La Fonte has spent the last 35 plus years representing clients in real estate finance and development transactions of all types. In particular, he has closed many hundreds of HUD-insured loans for lenders, borrowers and other parties in virtually every state and under every HUD multifamily and healthcare loan program. Related to that, La Fonte has handled numerous Transfers of Physical Assets (TPAs), Change of Ownership (CHOW), Change of Operator (CHOP), Assumption of HAP Contracts, and similar sales transactions for HUD lenders, sellers, and purchasers, as well as many other types of asset management matters requiring HUD approval. La Fonte has outstanding and extensive relationships with HUD Counsel and staff in HUD Headquarters and in Field Offices around the country.
La Fonte has also closed hundreds of non-HUD related transactions involving multifamily and other types of commercial real estate projects for borrowers, lenders and other parties.
Prior to joining Kantor Taylor, La Fonte spent five years as General Counsel and Senior Vice President at Love Funding, a HUD-insured lender. Prior to Love Funding, La Fonte was a real estate partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Holland & Knight, where he also served for about seven years as the Executive Partner of Holland & Knight’s Washington D.C. area offices, and as their first firm-wide Diversity Partner.
He has spoken and written widely on affordable housing, HUD programs, and other real estate matters. La Fonte has received various awards and honors including being named a Washington D.C. Super Lawyer numerous times and being recognized as the Co-Founder of the Washington Business Journal’s Minority Business Leaders award program.
La Fonte resides in Baltimore, Maryland.
